Lorimer Street between Metropolitan Avenue and Devoe Street was a sea of green, white, and red along with recurrent whiffs of cigar smoke and grilled sausage and peppers on October 8th for the Giglio Boys Club’s 5th Annual Columbus Day block party. The feast of Italian food is interspersed with lifting of a Giglio tower, a scaled down version of the one lifted during the renowned summer feast. The Columbus Day version is still an impressive lift as it is around 45 feet in height and more than half the size of the famed one lifted each July. According to James Nunziata, Giglio Boys Club President, this year’s block party was, “Bigger and better than ever.” The club enjoys giving back to the community, donating to the church, and hosting Santa to distribute toys to neighborhood kids at Christmastime.
