Memorial Gore has been a monument to those brave locals who gave up their lives in the First World War. At this gore last year, the community acknowledged the centennial of America’s entrance into WWI. This year local veterans Guido Cianciotta and Jose Aponte, Conselyea Street Block Association President Phil Caponegro, Father Rafael of Divine Mercy, Assemblyman Joseph Lentol, Boy Scouts of America Troop # 996, and St. Nicks Alliance placed a wreath on the monument to recognize 100 years of the Armistice. A brief history of the war was presented by scout Nicholas L. and scout Daniel A. recited the poem “In Flanders Fields” from memory. Much appreciation goes to NYC Parks Dept. and NYC Transit for cleaning up the monument.
