On February 12th The NYC Dept. of City Planning (DCP) held an info session for local business and industry stakeholders on the North Brooklyn Industry & Innovation Plan, which was released in November. As they are starting the implementation of recommendations to support business and job growth in the North Brooklyn Industrial Business Zone (IBZ), this was an opportunity to hold a Q&A on the new rezoning process and how that affects the area’s industry. This spring, the DCP will host a large public meeting to release a draft zoning framework.

Kerensa Wood (Dept. of City Planning) facilitating at the interactive info session Benjamin Solotaire of Council Member Levin’s Office and Josue Pierre of City Comptroller’s Office were among those in attendance

A snapshot of the plan seeks to: retain areas that can support and grow industrial/manufacturing jobs that provide essential services to the city and offer significant jobs; increase job density in growing office sectors such as TAMI (tech, advertising, media, information) in targeted areas near transit hubs; and support an improved quality of life for workers and residents within the Study Area and nearby, and connect workers with a variety of skill levels to quality jobs.

Members of the community present at this info session conveyed concerns about: environmental consequences of expansions, restricting commercial and other non-industrial uses, loading zones, and parking requirements.
