COVID-19 Survey Researches Health Equity

COVID-19 has cast a spotlight on many things, one of them is the subject of health equity. In May of 2020 the Institute for Health Equity Research (IHER) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai was created to “examine the causes and magnitude of health and health care disparities affecting nonwhite, low-income, immigrant, uninsured, LGBTQ+, and other vulnerable populations across all ages, abilities, and genders in order to will devise, test, and implement innovative solutions to eliminate disparities in health while fostering long-term collaborations with community organizations and policymakers,” states the mission statement. Their Speak Up on COVID-19 survey is currently exploring how New Yorkers have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This 10-minute, anonymous survey will help us understand how communities across NYC are experiencing the pandemic’s impacts, with the goal of educating policymakers, community-based organizations, and healthcare providers to get resources to those that need them most,” said a representative from IHER.
