More tenants will have more legal assistance to stay in their homes thanks to a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Renewal grant that U.S. Rep. Nydia Velázquez fought to secure.
“Earlier today, I was proud to present $750K in federal funds to help Communities Resist keep thousands of families across North Brooklyn in their homes and fight against the surge in evictions, systemic harassment and discrimination,” said Velázquez.
“We are so excited to announce that we will be receiving funding from Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez to continue our legal services in North Brooklyn. This is the first time we are receiving federal funding and it could not come at a better time. Our clientele increased by 60% during COVID and with this funding we would be able to bring on more attorneys to meet the growing need,” said Lina Lee, executive director of Communities Resist.
