By the time you read this the McCarren Park Pool will have opened for the summer.  This pool is classified as an olympic pool, so you can pretend you are in Paris competing in the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Outdoor pool hours are from 11:00 a.m. through 7:00 p.m. daily, with a break for pool cleaning between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

You’ll need to bring a combination lock to lock up your belongings.  Anyone in the pool area has to wear a swimsuit.  Also if you want a cover up, be sure to bring a plain white shirt as shirts with colors are not allowed on the deck.  Bring sunscreen too, but if you forget free sunscreen is provided to city pools.

What not to bring? Food, glass bottles, and newspapers are no-nos.  The latter because it’s not bound can blow around and become litter. It’s requested to leave jewelry and credit cards at home.  Bring strollers at your own risk, as staff can’t keep an eye on it.

Due to a lifeguard shortage some NYC Parks’ outdoor pools may have to resort to partial closures.  NYC Parks has communicated that as more lifeguards are hired these closures may end in July.
