Grand Street BID Is Looking to Expand

A past Grand Street BID organized cleanup day. The next one is on June 3 from 11 a.m.–2 p.m.

The Grand Street BID, a nonprofit economic and community development organization, serves Grand Street and its businesses from Union to Bushwick Avenues.  On receiving inquiries for their services from adjacent commercial corridors, they’ve started conversations with business owners, property owners and residents along Metropolitan Avenue, Union Avenue, Lorimer Street, Graham Avenue, and Bushwick Avenue to better understand community need and desires.

“The areas outside of the current BID’s boundaries don’t have access to the services we provide on Grand Street, creating an imbalance from one street to another within the commercial area. Expanding the BID and its services would improve the quality of life along the commercial corridors in Williamsburg through advocacy and community connections,” stated the Grand Street BID’s website.

The Grand Street BID is currently doing outreach by conducting a survey of those who live, work, own property, or run a business in Williamsburg.  The survey addresses current quality of life concerns and priorities for needed services in the neighborhood.  They will use the survey results to determine the boundaries and services in the expanded BID.

One example of the Grand Street BID’s services is their organized clean up days.  Their next one is scheduled for June 3 from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. meeting at the corner of Manhattan Avenue and Grand Street.  The activities will be picking up trash, cleaning up tree pits, and beautifying the neighborhood. The first 20 volunteers to join will also receive a free t-shirt.  After the clean up the team will enjoy a happy hour with pizza and drinks at Blinky’s Bar!
