“The Graham Avenue BID has launched Cook Street Commons, an open street public space activation, at Cook Street (corner of Graham Avenue) as an effort to promote commerce and community within our commercial district,” said a Graham Avenue BID announcement.
This unique take on an open street launched on July 22 and will continue on the following two Saturdays, take a 3-week pause and come back for the first three Saturdays in September. The dates of the final four Saturdays are August 5, September 2, September 9, and September 16.
The Graham Avenue BID will provide shoppers and visitors a new relaxing but fun entertainment experience, while promoting Graham Avenue businesses and community partners.
One such feature of Cook Street Commons is “Taste of Graham”. Area restaurants will offer free samples off their menus. Taqueria El Torito (32 Varet Street) provided free samples of their tacos on July 22. The Graham Avenue BID expects more restaurants to participate on August 5.
Cook Street Commons Saturdays will feature a music DJ, live entertainment, food tastings, and bistro-style seating under the shade of umbrellas.
“[We] invite young local talent to take advantage of our “open mic” to try out their performances,” said Alberto Valentin, executive director of Graham Avenue BID
The Graham Avenue BID and promotional partners: RISE Radio and Just3Arts aim to make a Saturday shopping spree a most uncommon experience.
