Peace Gorilla was invited to Kingsland Wildflowers (520 Kingsland Avenue) on the ground level along the East River next to the GreenpointEARTH mural which was painted by artists Danielle Mastrion and Lexi Bella and unveiled in September 2019. Visiting Hours for Peace Gorilla are: Monday–Friday 10 a.m.–5 p.m. and “Autumn Saturdays” through October admission is FREE.
Peace Gorilla is a bronze sculpture created by Noa Bornstein, a Greenpoint based artist. The message of the piece is one of peace and unity. The bronze gorilla, which was cast at the Bedi Makky art foundry in Greenpoint, sits on a concrete pedestal embedded with the word for friend in 90 languages.
“The 800-pound gorilla in the room (or park) may symbolize what we humans have yet to accomplish. Peace Gorilla continues to invite us to make friends and peace with each other, and with hers and other species,” says Bornstein in an article announcing Peace Gorilla’s previous stay at Newtown Barge Park (from August 2022–August 2023)
Before that Peace Gorilla made its debut at Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza near the United Nations from November 21, 2020–August 2021
