A good neighbor is an invaluable asset. They’ll loan you a cup of sugar when you need to bake an emergency birthday cake or watch your place and pets when you go on vacation and many other minor or major rescues.

To say North Brooklyn Neighbors (NBN) is a good neighbor is a rash understatement.  They have had Williamsburg’s and Greenpoint’s backs for 30 years by reclaiming the waterfront, advocating for increased access to open space, combating pollution, raising awareness about legacy toxins, and empowering neighbors.

They originated in 1994 as Neighbors Against Garbage (NAG) to fight a waste transfer station on the Williamsburg waterfront. NAG merged with the Greenpoint Waterfront Alliance to become NBN in 2019. In recent years they’ve been on the front lines of testing: lead levels in McCarren Park and air quality throughout the neighborhood. In addition to hosting community meetings and workshops to inform the community of environmental concerns rooted in the neighborhoods past like the Meeker Plume Superfund site.

On June 13 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on the Box House Hotel’s (77 Box Street) rooftop NBN will hold their annual ReusaBall, 30th Anniversary Celebration.  The celebration serves as a sustainably produced fundraiser that will celebrate the past, present, and future of NBN.

It’s a great opportunity to give back to a great neighborhood organization that has protected our wellbeing for 30 years and counting.  To purchase tickets or sponsor the event go to: www.northbrooklynneighbors.org
