Bedford Avenue between Manhattan Avenue and Lorimer Street closed from June 28–August 12

From June 28–August 12 Bedford Avenue between Lorimer Street and Manhattan Avenue will be closed by the NYC Department of Transportation (NYC DOT). An illuminated sign has been placed on the triangle where Bedford and Nassau Avenue’s meet instructing there will be no northbound access to Manhattan Avenue from here during this time.
The NYC DOT plan to expand public space and improve pedestrian crossings while maintaining emergency vehicle access. The temporary closure will also facilitate G Train 24/7 shuttle bus priority by limiting vehicle access on Bedford Avenue.
Plans to make this space safer have been in the works since 2018. Those with an eye for road safety have bemoaned this intersection of three streets that lacked any thought of pedestrian safety.
There are those who oppose the pedestrian friendly design. One petition claims the loss of the left turn from Bedford Avenue to Manhattan Avenue, among other things, will cause more traffic on bordering streets and increase danger there.
