In the shadow of the historic Domino sugar refinery, the aged red brick sets off the yellow Domino Sugar sign, yet in the courtyard below are several stalls offering the sweet, hearty, colorful bounty of local farms.  GrowNYC’s  Domino Park Greenmarket opened on June 16 and will continue each Sunday through November 24.

This market has had other locations at Domino Park in the past, but the current one on River Street between South 2nd and South 3rd Streets is awe inspiring.  It is situated at the newly constructed 15-story glass office building by Two Trees Management Company now named The Refinery, which maintains the original 19th century brick factory façade of the sugar refinery that is a North Brooklyn landmark.

You’ll find flowers, produce, baked goods, chicken, eggs, and certified-animal welfare and pasture-raised lamb, pork, and beef.  To see the vendors list visit: https://www.grownyc.org/greenmarket/brooklyn/dominopark

In addition, Domino Park is supporting a compost drop off at the southernmost table at the market from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Since the city budget cuts ended city-funded compost drop-off at parks and farmers markets, staff at Domino Park’s compost drop off have seen a noticeable increase.  A week after the McCarren Park drop-off ended they reported drop-offs at Domino Park had doubled.  You can also pickup free processed compost for your gardens. In addition to the Sunday drop off, they accept compost on Monday mornings from 10 a.m. until noon and Thursday nights from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
