On October 27, costumed paraders filled Manhattan Avenue from Driggs Avenue to Greenpoint Avenue for Town Square’s 21st Annual Greenpoint Children’s Halloween Parade.  The parade route started at McCarren Park and Driggs, moved along Manhattan Avenue to Greenpoint Avenue, then made a u-turn and went back to McCarren Park. Many came out as costumed participants filled the length of Manhattan Avenue from Driggs to Greenpoint Avenue.

There was a large group of skeletons, I think the collective noun for that is a rattle of skeletons. Also on view were many characters from: the Disney catalogue (princesses, Winnie the Pooh, Toy Story, Marvel, and Star Wars), video games, and food (hot dogs, box of fries, several pumpkins, and even a banana).

In this time of unsettling division, seeing a parade where Deadpool hangs out with Alice in Wonderland and a storm trooper can hold hands with a unicorn fairy princess stirs hope.

Town Square has hosted this parade from the year they were founded in 2004.  It fits their mission as a volunteer community-based nonprofit organization that strives to build a vibrant community and enrich the quality of our life through activities that inspire creativity and imagination, teach respect and cooperation, and celebrate the joy in Greenpoint and Williamsburg.  For more information visit: www.townsquarebk.org
