Purple Thursday

Kosciuszko Bridge was one of the New York landmarks that glowed purple on Purple Thursday

As October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the third Thursday of this month is designated Purple Thursday.  On this day purple-wearing people show their support for domestic violence survivors and raise awareness. North Brooklyn community organizations turned many a social media newsfeed purple.

St. Nicks Alliance Workforce Center donned purple to help raise awareness about domestic violence.

People weren’t the only things wearing purple. On October 17 Governor Kathy Hochul announced New York State landmarks would be illuminated purple last night in honor of Purple Thursday.  “Preventing domestic violence and supporting survivors was a lifelong mission for my mother. As governor, I’m committed to carrying on her work,” said Hochul.
