Brooklyn Borough President funds 83 NYCHA tenant associations
Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso celebrated NYCHA tenant association (TA) leadership at a breakfast; when he also announced $132,000 in FY25 discretionary funding would be distributed to 83 Brooklyn NYCHA TAs. This funding is to be used for general programming support, including family days, backpack giveaways, and other programs for NYCHA residents. Active Brooklyn NYCHA tenant associations were each awarded up to $3,000. The amount allocated to each development was based on each development’s population.
“NYCHA Tenant Associations are the lifeline of community at NYCHA developments. Our TA presidents organize incredible programming that supports residents and builds community, more often than not with very little funding. I am proud to provide support to Brooklyn’s NYCHA residents with this funding which gives a boost to TAs developing crucial programming,” said Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso. “Thank you to the TA presidents, TA members, and the NYCHA residents who help foster supportive communities in their developments!”
Debra Benders, president of Cooper Park Houses Residents Council, said, “Working to build safer communities means having partnerships with the same agenda.”
In Fiscal Year 2024, Reynoso allocated $108,000 to 69 NYCHA TAs. This fiscal year’s allocation includes $24,000 in additional funding to fourteen additional TAs.
