Get to Know a Neighbor: Sandra Sneed

GREENLINE’s Get to Know a Neighbor Q & A, continues to introduce you to a community member whose work or actions benefit this area.  This month’s featured neighbor is Sandra Sneed, who recently became the chief executive officer at NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull Medical Center.

Question 1: Where are you from?

Sandra Sneed was born in Queens, at Queens General Hospital, now Queens Hospital Center in Jamaica, Queens. Her first years were spent in Hollis until her parents bought a home in Long Island. There she completed middle school through high school. Then she went to Utica College of Syracuse University and earned a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy.

As a native New Yorker she is quite familiar with North Brooklyn.  She worked at Kings County Hospital for several years previously.

“I love the diversity of North Brooklyn and I returned here to take on the chief executive officer role for Woodhull which is a major provider of healthcare in North Brooklyn. I am privileged to have the opportunity to lead a talented and caring team of leaders and a workforce that demonstrates commitment to helping others,” said Sneed.

Question 2: What are your core community causes?

“Delivering the highest quality healthcare and efficiency in maternal health, and all of our clinical services to achieve a significant reduction of disparities among the population served by Woodhull Medical Center.”

Question 3: What is something you’d like to see in the neighborhood in 5–10 years?

“Woodhull Medical Center will continue to grow in excellence and be the model hospital and center of healing for North Brooklyn communities.”

Question 4: What about this community makes you proud to work here?

“The diversity of the people that live here, all the different people and cultures create a beautiful mosaic.”

Question 5: Name a place in North Brooklyn that brings you joy, and why?

I enjoy the Bushwick Inlet Park, North 5th Street pier and park, and Domino Park.  Why? I love greenspace, parks, arts, music, and the rich culture North Brooklyn offers.”

Sneed added that Woodhull Medical Center could be added to the above list because, working there and doing good for the community also bring her joy.
