Kingsland Wildflowers  A Rooftop Meadow

Kingsland Wildflowers (520 Kingsland Avenue) recently opened for the blooming seasons.
Since April 18–June 27, 2025, Kingsland Wildflowers hosts open hours every Friday from 5 p.m.–8 p.m. visitors can stroll the rooftops landscaped with native plants.  “Enjoy the golden hour from our scenic wildflower meadows.”  This year, the Newtown Native Nursery is up and running, allowing visitors to explore (and purchase) native plants that are grown on site. Plus, the 2025 Wildflowers Festival will take place July 26. This annual event offers: immersive music and dance performances from local artists, opportunities to engage with community organizations that are tabling and hosting a variety of family friendly, all-age activities throughout our space.

Greenhouse Gang (520 Kingsland Avenue) June 17 and on the third Tuesday of the month through October, horticulture enthusiasts volunteer gardeners can help Kingsland Wildflowers expand their native nursery.

Where to Take a Dip

McCarren Pool (at Lorimer and Bayard streets) will open on June 27 as all NYC outside pools will. Its hours are from 11 a.m.–7 p.m. daily, with a break for pool cleaning between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Metropolitan Pool, which as an indoor pool is open all year, is still closed “due to a mechanical issue which has resulted in poor dehumidification and air circulation. Equipment needed to assist in increased air circulation at the center has been ordered and will be installed within the next few months.”  It first closed in January then four months ago the previous notice about ordering equipment went up.  Some have heard that it will reopen in June or July. As of June 12, the pool is still closed according to their NYC Parks webpage.

Farmers Market at Domino Park Reopens

The Domino Park greenmarket will reopen Sundays, starting on June 15 from 8 a.m.–3: p.m. through November 23.  They also will accept food scrap drop off, in partnership with Domino Park, on Sundays from 8 a.m.– 3 p.m. In partnership with Domino Park.  Accepted items: fruit, vegetables, ground coffee, bread. They do NOT currently accept: fish and meat, citrus, compostable cutlery, sauces & oils.
