Postcard art show supports seniors

The call went out to local artists to create postcards as a love letter to Brooklyn. More than 60 postcards were sent in to Lisa Gutting, the fundraising chair on St. Nicks Alliance’s board. In addition, students in St. Nicks Alliance’s after school also created postcards to aid the effort.
Those who saw Postcards to Brooklyn Exhibition on June 4 loved the art, and many purchased cards at $50 each or 3 for $100.

Dr. Lorenzo Pace, a multifaceted artist who was commissioned by the City of New York to create a sculpture to honor the legacy of the African American Burial Ground: Triumph of the Human Spirit, was at the show in person and via the two postcards he made.
One who purchased one of his cards was elated at being able to purchase something of the artist’s.

Most of the postcards were purchased by the time I arrived, at the halfway point of the three-hour event. Gutting conveyed she’d asked some of the buyers to leave their cards so the walls wouldn’t be empty as too many cards were leaving the premises.
Gutting stated she is looking forward to doing another postcard art fundraiser next year.
