At the end of June, the NYC Budget for FY2026 was finalized.
“In an election year, Mayor Adams agreed to restore many of his most egregious cuts to early childhood education and libraries and more. And thanks to our Council leadership, we pushed for investments that reflect the values of our City,” said NYC Council Member Lincoln Restler. He went on to say, “We protected 60,000 child care vouchers for working families, and we’re taking a bold step to invest in our future by piloting a new free childcare model for 0-2 year olds. I look forward to working with our next Mayor to expand this program in the near future.”
“Every year, this mayor proposes cruel cuts—to CUNY, child care, parks, and mental health—and then throws himself a parade for walking them back. Let’s be clear: the wins in this budget belong to us—the Council, the advocates, and the people who fought back,” said NYC Council Member Jennifer Gutiérrez.
In Restler’s district, District 33, $3M will go to Greenpoint schools as part of a commitment to improving school facilities district wide. Schools receiving the improvements are: P.S. 110, P.S. 34, and P.S. 31.
P.S. 110’s auditorium will receive upgrades that include: new seats, improved AV capabilities, air conditioning, and more. Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso has partnered in this revamp, investing $1M into transforming the auditorium. At P.S. 34, $1.27M is funding the renovation to the school’s playground. As P.S. 31 has had to relocate their graduation due to extreme heat for the past two years, $750K will fund air conditioning and a new sound system for the auditorium.
District 34, Gutiérrez’s district, over $5M will go to affordable housing upgrades at RiseBoro, Los Sures & St. Nicks Alliance, a permanent home for El Puente, air conditioning in four school buildings, and a new AI education initiative.
