STEM Program – Hydroponic/Outdoor Learning Garden and LEGO Engineering •  First Polish English Dual Language Program • Art and Music Programming for Pre-K through Grade 5

Housed in a landmark building in the heart of Greenpoint, P.S. 34 continues to grow, inspire, and challenge our students to achieve success in an environment that allows students to explore a multitude of programs, enrichments, and initiatives.

For school year 2025-2026, we are proud to host a rich enrichment and cluster programming available to all our students Pre-K through fifth grade.

Every student at P.S. 34 participates in our school-wide enrichment and cluster programs that include dedicated full-time teachers: art with Ms. Rachel Kim, music with Mr. Vlesmas, STEM with Ms. Crawford, and physical education with Mr. Granito. We are especially excited that our Pre-K is included in this exciting school-wide programming. In addition, through PTA-funded grants, we have partnerships with Eckford Street Studios, Marquis Dance, Kid Kitchen, Dancing Classrooms Ballroom, and Chess in Schools. Furthermore, our PTA funds after-school enrichment programs including debate team (Grades 3–5), Disney theater (Grades 4–5), and social-emotional club with our very own social worker Michelle Garavaglia.

The P.S. 34 PTA, school leadership, and staff, have organized efforts in the last several years to revitalize the McGuinness School and Eckford Street School Yards into a community learning garden. Through volunteering and grants the transformation of this learning garden has become a bounty of native plants and edible foods. We grow figs, grapes, tomatoes, corn, bean, squash, watermelon, and a variety of herbs to enhance our students’ education around conservation and habitat renewal.

As a member of Eco-School, students from Pre-kindergarten to fifth grade participate in our Eco-STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) program. In this program, students learn problem-solving and critical thinking as they study and explore the environment in our school, community, and planet. Our STEM lab provides hands-on learning through our hydroponic system and technology with our state of the art mobile STEM carts equipped with iPad and science tools for research.

As the first Polish-English dual language program in New York City, we are proud to share that this program develops bilingualism in English and Polish as well as an understanding of the Polish culture. Non-Polish speaking students are also eligible to apply.

Parents are always welcome and encouraged to participate in their child’s education at P.S. 34. They can be involved in many different ways such as through our strong PTA and various committees, school volunteers, various workshops, Leadership Day, Family Nights to the circus and shows, baseball games, and Parents Read to Class days.

At P.S. 34 students achieve intellectual and personal excellence at his or her maximum potential in an engaging, inspiring, and challenging learning environment that will prepare them to excel in our school, community and beyond.
