26th Annual Lights on Afterschool

P.S. 147 students create lightbulb art to salute Lights On Afterschool day, on October 22.

Lights On Afterschool was celebrated on October 22. It is the only nationwide event celebrating afterschool’s important role in the lives of children, families, and communities.

This year, students participating in St. Nicks Alliance’s after-school sites dove into a variety of creative activities that spoke to their appreciation of afterschool.

Many did light bulb arts and crafts that are typically done on that day, and invited the parents to join them.

Students of P.S. 46 created special light bulb art and wrote on them what they love about afterschool. M.S. 577 students made candles. P.S. 150’s older students (3rd, 4th, and 5th graders) created a dance to “Light It Up – Remix” by Major Lazer.  P.S. 147 also acknowledged Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and each group created their own activity.
