The Greenpoint YMCA celebrated their 8th Annual Spirit of the Community Awards on October 14 at Giando on the Water.

“Tonight we celebrate the extraordinary individuals whose dedication reflects the Y’s core mission: to empower youth, foster healthy living, and strengthen community,” stated Kendall Carter, exec. dir. Greenpoint YMCA.

Bamonte’s Restaurant and Anthony Bamonte were among those honored this year.  Bamonte’s has the distinction of celebrating its 125th anniversary this year. It was founded as a banquet hall by Pasquale Bamonte in 1900.  For a while it has been under the stewardship of Anthony Bamonte, grandson of Pasquale. He has preserved the spirit and caliber of the place so that it remains a neighborhood favorite for current generations as it had for the past generations.
