On October 26 at noon, families in costume met at Manhattan Avenue and Driggs Avenue to ready themselves to walk, run, skip, lumber, or however their costumes allowed them to move as part of the 22nd Annual Greenpoint Children’s Halloween Parade. The parade travels from the starting point along Manhattan Avenue to Greenpoint and back. It was once again led by the NYPD Marching Band, which played tunes like “Theme to the Addam’s Family” and “Ghostbusters” to keep the tempo and spirits up (pun intended).

Hats off to the creativity on display.  Speaking of hats, one family celebrated classic children’s literature where the father dressed as the peddler from “Caps for Sale”, the mom dressed as “Strega Nona”, and the baby was a bookworm in a stroller that was made up to look like a stack of books.

Another baby carriage was disguised as Snoopy snoozing atop his doghouse with mom and dad as Sally and Linus, respectively.

Art was on display as Andy Warhol made an appearance flanked by a walking can of Campbell’s Tomato Soup and a toddler in a banana costume.  Plus, two of Jeff Koons red balloon dogs strolled the parade route.

Halloween spooks of all sorts participated. There were many ghosts, a mummy, skeletons, a rat, etc.
