Somos was founded in 1987 by members and allies of the NYS Assembly and NYS Senate Puerto Rican/Hispanic Task Force. Each year, they organize a conference in Puerto Rico that holds legislative workshops and other events that provide inspiration and tools to ensure the needs of New York’s Hispanic communities are met.
Among the elected officials participating, Governor Kathy Hochul made another appearance at the conference, as did Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani.
