Winter was more wintery than it’s been in the last several years.  As we just entered spring, when green shoots start emerging in tree beds, parks, and gardens, many feel more energetic and joyful.

Cherry Blossoms are a highlight of the spring, and this area has some spectacular views within walking distance.

The whiter of the cherry blossoms, aka the Yoshino, are the first of the Sakura to bloom. If you stroll down Jackson Street between Graham and Manhattan Avenues around the first week of April, you can catch a mid-air sea of white petals.  Also, seven Yoshino cherry trees were planted along Orient Street in 2024.

Late mid- April, has been the usual time for the Kwanzan cherries to show off their pink popcorn puffs. You can see a bunch of these trees along North 6th Street between Havemeyer Street and Meeker Avenue, and then down a bit on Havemeyer Street. There’s a gorgeous single tree in Memorial Gore on the corner of Metropolitan Avenue and Humboldt Street. In addition to the lovely ones in McCarren, McGolrick, and Cooper Parks.
