IDNYC card 01 web

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is. He applied for New York City’s municipal ID card in June.  He stated it would make him “a real New Yorker.”

On July 27th Mayor de Blasio announced the count of issued IDs while standing on the steps of the Museum of Natural History.  This museum is one of the 33 citywide cultural institutions that provides eligibility for a one-year free membership package.

The IDNYC card is free for all New Yorkers who apply during the first year of the program. The cut-off date for the free ID is December 31, 2015.

To apply for an ID it is advised to make an appointment.  You can book an appointment from the idNYC website, and an appointment lasts about 20 minutes.

Alternatively, you can show up to one of the enrollment centers without an appointment. The wait may be longer, but according to inside advice the wait is less the earlier you go and if you go on a bad weather day.
