
The best in chess from grades K through High School came to compete in the 49th Annual New York State Scholastic Chess Championship. Participants traveled to Saratoga Springs, New York to see whose king would be the last king standing over the March 13th weekend.
Brooklyn IS 318 brought the Junior High School Team Championship title home to Williamsburg by besting the best private, charter, and public middle school chess teams in New York State! Congratulations to team members: Eugenio Maria De Hostos, Steven Xue, Arjun Rai, Samantha Dong, and Li Heng Wang!
The same weekend saw the PS 31 Chess Kings from Greenpoint awarded for their chess prowess. They took 3rd Place Elementary Novice and 1st Place Elementary Rookie at Chess in Schools’(CIS) Garodnick Chess Challenge!
To help send these Brooklyn teams to the national levels of their respective competitions Town Square has organized a fundraiser at STREB: 51 N 1st St, Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Purchase a ticket to see STREB’s new show, “SEA”: a $25 General Admission ticket includes popcorn & soda for the show. A $50 adult/$30 kid VIP ticket will get you into a Pre-Show Party with an open bar and light dinner plus open bar during intermission.
