School Settlement Association’s football team and coaches were jazzed to play their championship game in the snow.
“When I woke up that Saturday morning and saw the snow, I was so excited. I wanted to play. That’s football!” said Rick Martinez, an assistant coach for the Mean Machine, School Settlement Association’s football team.
“To see the team, coaches and parents all there ready to go in that weather was the best feeling a coach can have, that’s dedication and true support. Mean Machine was there, ready to go, and the game was going to happen that day!”
They played the championship game on Dec. 17 in the snowy rain. It was a close one, too: the Mean Machine lost by two points, winning second place.
“Parents walk up to us and thank us. Some parents say we make a big difference in their child’s life. The way I see it, we want to thank them and give a huge shout out to them. These kids made a huge impact on me. These kids are the real MVPs!” said head coach Dennis.
