Innovation, Music, and Block Party

The Northside Festival has taken a mid-north by northeast twist to SXSW. It mixes symposiums on innovation in marketing, communications, journalism, and media with a music fest and a free block party that featured public art, fun and games (there was a tennis court between North 4th St. and Metropolitan, and a Dungeon and Dragons table), and a stage where a rotation of acts played for 4 hours.
This year’s Northside Innovation talks shared vision on the impact of the visual via a presentation from DW. Pine of TIME magazine on the impact of Trump on the magazine’s covers, Shutterstock presented on how to take better photos and how to make more visual impact in marketing, and journalism took center stage at many of the venues where women in journalism plus short and long documentary forms (BRIC, NY Times Docs) were discussed, as well as live interviews with Mayer de Blasio and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (BuzzFeed, VICE).
Northside Music once again gathered over 300 artists, both emerging and established, to perform on outdoor stages and in indie clubs scattered throughout north Brooklyn.
