Just before winter break, Commanding Officer of the 90th Precinct, Deputy Inspector William Gardner had the pleasure of being made principal for the day at Progress High School. Principal for a Day has become an annual event at this school, and in past years the honor has gone to leaders and athlete in the community.
The students benefited from the opportunity to meet and have open discussion with Deputy Inspector Gardner. They received a better understanding of the work police officers do in the area.
In his role as principal du jour, Deputy Inspector Gardner also visited several classes and sat in on a peer mentoring program and the principal’s cabinet meeting.
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” said Gardner.
