Celebrating Lunar New Year and Mandarin Dual Language Program

PS 250 rang in the Year of the Dog by showcasing how their Mandarin Dual Language program has inspired their students. The performance began with the Kindergarten and First Grade class singing a Happy New Year song in Chinese. Teachers Ms. Zhang and Ms. Weng performed a piece where a new year salutation was written out in Chinese calligraphy on red paper held by students while “Fishing Boat” was played on the Guzheng, a zither like instrument. A ribbon, umbrella, fan, and kung fu dances were represented in this Lunar New Year celebration.
The Mandarin Dual Language program began at PS 250 in 2016, and it is thus far the only one in School District 14. They will expand the program to include the second grade next year.
