The storefront vacancy problem is rapidly spreading across New York City. To help reverse this troubling trend in the neighborhood, the Grand Street Business Improvement District (BID) a non-profit that supports businesses on Grand Street between Union and Bushwick Avenues in East Williamsburg, hosted a free Retail Spaces Tour on May 17. The walking tour showed nine available retail spaces to potential business owners and active entrepreneurs. Available spaces range from 400–10,000 sq.ft. Property owners and brokers rolled up their gates and answered questions about their spaces, to connect with interested entrepreneurs as part of this unique chance to market their spaces to multiple potential tenants.
Natalie Mendell, the Grand Street BID’s, Retail Attraction & Retention Manager is addressing the neighborhood’s vacancy issue. She spreads awareness of available retail spaces and helps potential business owners find the right space, which results in fewer vacancies in the area.
