Brooklyn’s Northside Festival started in 2008 and back then: the music acts played venues large and small throughout the neighborhood and the Innovation component was a series of tables set up over two days in McCarren Park. Oh how they have grown since then. 2018’s Northside Fesitval attract-ed over 100K to hear 300 bands (including Liz Phair) and 150 speakers.
The bandstand this year was parked next to the Apple store.
Innovation’s symposium style takes place in the Williamsburg, Wythe, and William Vale hotels, and imparts a variety of informative and cultural atmospheres. Four years ago the Northside Festival took on the organizer role for Williamsburg Walks from Neighbors Allied for Good Growth (NAG), which gives local performers, artists, and businesses a stage on a carless Bedford Avenue.
Northside Innovation invites experts in the fields of media, communications, and technology to speak on their experiences and future projections. “Admit any mistakes and correct them immediately when they happen,” was one way to gain your audience’s trust the experts on this panel gave.It was a cloudy and somewhat sprinkly the Sunday of the Bedford Block Party, but some folks got their sketch on thanks to Draw NYC and the Uni Project.Representatives from McCann New York and MGM Resorts spoke on their unique marketing strategy for a concept album that re-imagines classic, traditionally heterosexual love songs as same-sex wedding tunes covered by top musical artists such as Bob Dylan.
