A couple days before Thanksgiving, the North Brooklyn Angel hosted the 1st Annual Gratitude Event Celebrating North Brooklyn Volunteers at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel’s parish hall. The Angels inspiration for the dinner was to celebrate volunteers in the community. 200 locals came to share a meal and seasoned volunteers sharedtheir experiences with those curious about how to get involved.
“We have a lot of Angels in this room,” noticed Assemblyman Joseph Lentol.
Since its inception, local volunteers have driven the wildly successful mission and growth of the North Brooklyn Angels to serve almost 1,000 hot meals a week to communities throughout North Brooklyn.
The night included buffet-style dinner, beverages, music, games, face painting and two performances by Greenpoint YMCA, interactive artwork by local artist Katie Merz, and much more.
This event, as well as the mission of the North Brooklyn Angels, was made possible by a number of community sponsors, supporters, volunteers, and leaders: Broadway Stages, Apple Bank, Exxon Mobil, UPS, Newtown Creek Group, Waste Management, The Pace Companies, Chariot, Greenpoint YMCA, Daly Gonzalez for Lyft, Rethink Food, Southside United HDFC-Los Sures, Sister Victoria (and crew) from Most Holy Trinity, Michael Rochford (Executive Director of St. Nicks Alliance), leaders from the Residents Council from Cooper Park Houses, Mary Odomirok (representing Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney), Council Members Antonio Reynoso and Stephen Levin, Assemblyman Joseph Lentol, Norm & Elaine Brodsky, Josh Cohen, several clerical leaders including Monsignor Jamie Gigantelli of Mt.
