St. Nicks Alliance, United Neighbors Organization (UNO) rallied with Southside United HDFC-Los Sures, Churches United for Fair Housing (CUFFH), and other North Brooklyn groups on January 23rd, the National Day of Action for Rent Control. Nationwide local organizations called on their governors and state legislators to demand an end to rent hikes and an expansion of rent control.

NY State’s rent laws are up for renewal in 2019, and since day one of the New Year housing advocates have been urging state government to support Universal Rent Control. They are seeking to close pro-tenant loopholes and preserve existing affordable housing. In addition they hope for expanded protections to the vast majority of tenants across the state that live at risk of harassment and displacement due to gentrification.
