The BK Story Voyager recently received a $25,000 sponsorship from the Guru-Krupa Foundation. The Long Island-based organization has guided its philanthropy by supporting those less fortunate and supporting causes related to the acquisition of knowledge and the preservation of heritage or knowledge already acquired. Children and basic human needs are frequent foci of Guru-Krupa’s generosity as they’ve provided support for playgrounds, school buses, eyecare, books, and mobile food pantries.
Mukund Padmanabhan, the Executive Director of the Guru-Krupa Foundation visited the BK Story Voyager and observed St. Nicks Alliance’s approach in promoting a love of books and reading in North Brooklyn’s school children. Mukund came to PS 147 one Friday afternoon and witnessed the intensive literacy activities being provided at this St. Nicks Alliance afterschool center. He boarded the BK Story Voyager to sit in on a lesson taught by Laura Ennis, the BK Story Voyager Education Manager, which utilized books conveying global monetary knowledge to a young audience. Before he left, Mukund confirmed that the Foundation was interested in doing what it could to keep the BK Story Voyager on the road. Within a week he sent the check for $25,000.
In acknowledgement for their generous grant, the Guru-Krupa Foundation sponsorship will be displayed prominently on the BK Story Voyager itself and on the St. Nicks Alliance website.
