In a world where oysters can stand side by side to donuts (the former from Maison Premier, the latter from Du’s Donuts) you are surrounded with the reminder that food is a great uniter. We all get hungry and can be wooed by the delicious: therein lies food’s power to bring people together. In a few weeks, the 10th annual TASTE Williamsburg Greenpoint festival will sing a sweet and savory siren song, and 2,000 plus will answer the call and visit this most flavorful fundraiser in East River Park (at North 8th Street) on September 15 (from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.).
Attendees will enjoy the opportunity to sample bites and sips from over 40 of the neighborhood’s top restaurants, bars, and independent merchants. As ever, proceeds from the event will benefit the Firehouse North Brooklyn Community Center at 134 Wythe Avenue, which is working to re-open as a crucial hub for the local community. The project is entering its construction phase as it has $250,000 left to collect of its $2.8M goal.
Taste veterans; Tacocina, Leuca, Barano, Lighthouse, Zona Rosa, The Williamsburg Hotel, Brooklyn Winery, Brooklyn Bowl, Midnights, Le Gamin, The Saint Austere, etc. will join newcomers: Ela Taverna, Keg & Lantern Brewing Company, Baba’s Pierogies, Dolly’s Swing and Dive, and Silver Light Tavern. Taste Williamsburg/Greenpoint continues its goal to becoming a zero-waste event. Cup Zero will provide a reusable tasting glass and 100 Bio donated plates that are the world’s first 100% compostable foam foodware.
Fun activities will give guests additional variety. Area 53 will host velcro archery tag. Vintage video games will be supplied by Team 1 Up. The Greenpoint YMCA will offer a plethora of offerings from the athletic to the artistic. Also the BK Story Voyager will open its doors for you to open its books.
2019’s TASTE Williamsburg Greenpoint will be at East River Park (at North 8th Street) on September 15 (from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.). Tickets are $60. For more information or to purchase tickets go to: www.tastewg.com
