Library Journal a 140-year-old publication that each year names the Librarian of the Year, has given 2020’s title to two librarians. Lauren Comito (Managing Librarian, Leonard Library) and Christian Zabriskie (Senior Librarian, Queens Library) were both selected because of their ongoing collaboration as colleagues and founders of Urban Librarians Unite (ULU), and how they have significantly advanced the librarian profession and its mission.
ULU began the “Save NYC Libraries” campaign during the Great Recession when funding and staff to libraries was being cut. As the economy has improved ULU’s current role is more about providing services to the community.
