Grand Street Wonder Women

Continuing the history of enterprising women

It’s not easy running a business.  If you are a woman today’s world still brings more obstacles compared to male counterparts.  The pandemic has done major damage to all economic aspects, but it has hit the female workforce particularly hard.  As March is Women’s History Month, New York merchant associations and BIDs (business improvement districts) across the five boroughs have chosen to showcase businesses headed by women in their communities.

The Grand Street BID is one of the groups participating in this effort.  They will be featuring women-led businesses in their BID on their Instagram throughout the month.  They started by featuring Hair by Catherine (584 Grand Street)

A week later they stopped to help us see the flowers at Alcatraz Flower Shop (648 Grand Street), which opened July 24, 2020.

The following are only some of the women-led businesses on Grand Street are Yummy Hair Extensions (675 Grand Street); Mint Brow and Beauty (552 Grand Street); FRC Francesca Romana Caputo, interior architect and designer (753 Grand Street); Hair by Catherine (584 Grand Street); Crystal Lake, bar (647 Grand Street); United Xtreme Taekwondo (653 Grand Street); Ammazzacaffe (702 Grand Street); Empire Locksmith (648 Grand Street); Hour Rose Salon (658D Grand Street); and Alcatraz Flower Shop (648 Grand Street).
