NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull has witnessed the profound economic effect that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on many families within the community this hospital serves. The plight of joblessness and homelessness that has occurred as a result is devastating. To put things into perspective, the Pew Research Center reported that unemployment rose higher in three months of COVID-19 than it did in two years of the Great Recession.
Woodhull inspired by the outpouring of community support they have received during the pandemic showed their appreciation in hosting Woodhull Gives Back on December 17. The event was festive and fun-filled event that also brought some support to families and individuals in need this holiday season.
“Over the course of the last two months, Woodhull employees have been purchasing coats, winter accessories, and groceries for families in our catchment areas. With the assistance of several community organizations and churches, 150 families were identified,” Woodhull stated. The items along with $25 Food Bazaar gift cards were distributed to those families at the Woodhull Gives Back event.
