North Brooklyn Parks Alliance (NBK Parks) held their 11th annual Gala on October 6, and encouraged all to “breathe deep and celebrate” Under the K Bridge Park. One of the highlights at this event is the awards ceremony. This year Dr. Michael F. Timoney, surgeon in chief at NYU Langone Hospital of Brooklyn; Debra Benders, president of Cooper Park Houses Resident Association; and Seth Pompan, president of North Brooklyn Runners were the night’s honorees. In addition, the Sister Francis Kress Environmental Award, which proclaims the recipients as Eco-Warriors, was given to: the Friends of Cooper Park, the McCarren Dog Run Alliance, the McCarren Demonstration Garden, the North Brooklyn Open Streets Community Coalition, Rodney Park Basketball, and the Sunshine Community Garden. The awardees were introduced by NBK Parks Board Chair Dr. Erich Anderer, NYS Assembly Member Emily Gallagher, and NYC Council Members Lincoln Restler and Jennifer Gutiérrez.
“We are so grateful to our wonderful Honorees for their ongoing commitment to uplifting the health and wellness of North BK residents and are thrilled to have been able to recognize them at our Gala,” said a post on NBK Parks Instagram.
