NYS Assembly Member Emily Gallagher and NYS Senator Julia Salazar honored women in their districts who fill roles of civil rights and community leaders, local educators, and tenant and youth organizers.  The Women of Distinction Awards were presented at the Wythe Hotel on April 16.

Honorees were: Cassidy Andrews, exec. dir./CEO Brooklyn Community Kitchen; Lila De La Bega and Ariana Tzanos founders of NYS Assembly District 50’s youth council; Eva Irizarry, principal of Brooklyn Arbor Elementary School; Lauren Miller, advancement and alliance dir. of the Bushwick Starr; Luz Rosero, president of United Neighbors Organization; Eloise Rowe, tenant association president for Borinquen Houses; and Jo-Ann Yoo, president of Asian American Federation.

“It was humbling and a true honor to recognize such powerful, principled and committed leaders in our community with Women of Distinction Awards alongside Senator Julia Salazar on Sunday. You give all of us in the Fightin’ 50th so much strength,” stated Gallagher. 

NYS Senator Julia Salazar echoed that sentiment, “What a joy it was to spend the afternoon yesterday celebrating the leadership of Women of Distinction in Brooklyn with Assembly Member Emily Gallagher!
