NYC’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is the nation’s largest initiative that facilitates employment and career exploration for youth ages 14–24 during the summer. SYEP helps better prepare its participants for future professions by providing structured project and work-based opportunities.
You are eligible to apply to SYEP if you are a resident of NYC’s five boroughs, are legally allowed to work here, and are between the ages of 14–24. Application deadline is February 27, 2026
SYEP is also looking for employers to sign up to be a worksite. Employers large and small can participate. Recruitment of SYEP interns, HR duties, payment, and other administrative tasks are handled by community nonprofit partners and funded by New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD). Interested employers can even receive help developing a job or internship that fits their needs. The deadline to submit your workplace as a worksite is in early May.
SYEP interns that will be assigned to worksites are ages 16–24. Internships begin in early July and participants will be assigned to work 25 hours per week for six weeks at a pay rate of $17 per hour (funded by DYCD not employers).
Those selected for SYEP who are ages fourteen and fifteen will be assigned project-based learning.
For several years, St. Nicks Alliance has been the largest SYEP provider in North Brooklyn. For more information on their SYEP opportunities call 718-599-2424 or email syep@stnicksalliance.org . They can be selected as your provider when applying on the SYEP application site.
Last year more than 12K worksites hosted 100K SYEP participants. 95% of 2025’s participants surveyed said that they would recommend SYEP to a friend.
