On June 13 the NY Knicks won the NBA championships and it seemed all of NYC was jumping for joy in the streets.
In North Brooklyn, FDNY truck blew their horns and slowly navigated along the people filled streets allowing folks to climb on board, as happened on Berry Street in the Northside.
TV’s were in front of pizza parlors and walk ups so neighbors could have an impromptu watch party.
Carmine and Sons Pizzeria and Sports Bar at 356 Graham Avenue, was overflowing with energized Knicks fans throughout their playoff run and through the NBA Finals. Shortly after the Knicks championship win, Carmine took to the street and lit fireworks.
“Thank you to our staff, our customers, our Williamsburg neighborhood, and the generations before us who gave us the opportunity to experience one of the most memorable chapters in New York history. We’ll never forget where we were when the Knicks brought the championship home,” was posted on Carminespizzeria IG.

The next day, June 14, the annual North Brooklyn Puerto Rican Parade rolled along Knickerbocker Avenue as usual, but this time with NY Knicks point guard, Jose Alvarado. Mayor Zohran Mamdani was right behind him, waving Puerto Rico’s flag, and NYS Assembly Member Maritza Davila was also on board. Alvarado, is known as the only true New Yorker on the team, as he was raised in the Southside of Williamsburg.

The Knicks victory parade took place on June 18. The team and its leadership were presented a key to NYC by Mamdani. It was very noticeable that the applause and cheers amped up when Alvarado was called to receive his key. Jalen Brunson is well deserving of the MVP, and all the Knicks participated in the win, but Grand Theft Alvarado has stolen NYC’s heart via his Williamsburg bona fides.
