PS 16’s Forever Young Playground finally bore fruition on October 20th thanks to the efforts of PS 16’s Principal Mary Renny. “I have been trying to get a playground for my children for 6 years. Four years ago, Councilman Levin granted us the funds, but every time the contract was awarded to a vendor, the city decided they weren’t doing business with them anymore. My staff thought I was joking about the park, I sometimes thought I dreamt it. Over the last four years I must have written hundreds of emails asking about my playground,” Ms. Renny explained.
Now that the park has finally become a reality, it will bring a much need stimulus for exercise to her students who need a safe clean place to play. “They don’t have to worry about beer bottles, garbage or people relieving themselves on the benches or under the equipment. This is a major problem with the park behind our school. This was the driving force of my efforts to get the children a place to play,” said Principal Renny. “We can never thank Councilman Levin enough or the Gordian Group who built the playground. This park has a little piece of everyone who shares our school community and I am forever grateful to them all. The children love the playground, and can’t stop smiling. The parents love it as well.” she said.
