First there was the pizza feast. Then after everyone ate, the top secret holiday surprise fun was revealed. The gym at Cooper Park Community center was transformed into a winter wonderland. The temperature was made to be on the chilly side to counter the current 60 degree spring-like weather. The floor was carpeted with red paper and confetti snow. In the wings (or rather along the walls) waited Anne Polashenski and Georgia Wall from the Joan Mitchell Foundation. They were on hand to direct the kids at 3 craft stations: gingerbread men decorating, Christmas card making, and Christmas cookie decorating.
Further fun was snapped up by a photo booth with Santa. The crowd was also entertained by a song from the K–2nd graders and a play put on by the 3rd graders on up.
“This year we wanted to step it up a notch. You can’t be great if you don’t step it up a notch,” said Shawn Evans aka Santa.
