The NYC Dominican Parade celebrated its 35th with its usual march up the Avenue of the Americas. Among the floats, flag waving, dancing, and other cultural festivities that celebrate Dominican Republic heritage are those of this heritage that are selected as parade ambassadors. These individuals are chosen for their ability to effect positive change in their communities.

Dep. Brooklyn Borough President Diana Reyna was named Ambassador for Public Service but the parade’s board of directors. As stated by the parade’s website, “Since 2001, Deputy Brooklyn Borough President Diana Reyna has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to communities across Brooklyn through government service and advocacy. As the first woman of Dominican descent elected to office in New York State she focuses on ways she can advocate for the over 2.6 million residents of New York City’s most diverse borough.”
