Café Ponico Opening Celebration

Café Ponico celebrates their opening with Zach Williams (Food Access Manager for Southside United HDFC – Los Sures) and Robin Sirota Bassin (Social Services Director for Southside United HDFC – Los Sures)

Café Ponico is Southside United HDFC – Los Sures’s new urban grow lab and community café space located in a storefront space at 357 S. 3rd Street. Starting in September, volunteers began building out hydroponic systems, distributing food, and passing out free coffee to passers-by.

On December 6th it was time to celebrate the opening of this unique community engagement space.  Free coffee and food were served, a band played, and there was some aquarium activity.

In 2019, Café Ponico is looking forward to keeping regular hours serving free coffee and distributing fresh produce. They are also looking to connect with local leaders, experts, and educators who want to lead workshops and programs such as a Spanish language conversation group, moms’ group, chess club, art group, etc. This project has been made possible thanks the support of bold organizational leadership, the United Way of New York City, and the tireless dedication and energy of community volunteers.

Café Ponico is located at 357 S. 3rd Street. When they open in 2019 their hours are projected to be Monday thru Thursday 2 p.m.–6 p.m. If you’d like to volunteer or lead a workshop or group contact: Zach Williams at
