Eat and drink local events from the Grand St. BID
The Grand Street BID Winter Restaurant Week 2019 is in full swing at the time of this writing. One afternoon I decided to brave the cold wind and seek the peace and warmth of Indian Kitchen (739 Grand Street). This restaurant is one of six that offers the lunch option in addition to dinner for restaurant week. Indian Kitchen’s pricing for restaurant week is a bargain for one ($12), but if you’re a party of two or three it’s one dollar cheaper per person ($22 or $33 total respectively). Each diner gets to select one appetizer and one entrée from a special menu with vegetarian and non vegetarian items. As it was Monday, I decided to choose meatless and picked Ka-Chories (described by the menu as: too difficult to put into words but highly recommended) for my appetizer and for my entrée I picked Aloo Saag (potato and spinach) this came with basmati rice and naan. I’ll attempt to describe the Ka-Chories, and it deserves the high recommendation, there was fresh toasted naan (warm crunch), with chilled chick peas and potatoes, in a light curried vinaigrette that had a hint of heat and honey, and a yogurt drizzle. The Aloo Saag entrée hit the spot, and a small portion of rice pudding was for dessert. This meal was more than enough to sate my taste buds and stomach.
The Grand Street BID organizes a Restaurant Week twice a year (in winter and summer) to promote local eateries on Grand Street from Bushwick to Borinquen. It gives locals the daily opportunity to take a world cruise and visit delights from: Latin America, Japan, the Mediterranean & Middle East, India, France, Italy, Thailand, and upscale to down-home America.

People from the neighborhood and beyond can dine at one of 15 participating Grand Street restaurants and enjoy special menu items, discounted prices, and a true Grand Street experience! It’s the perfect excuse to check out somewhere you’ve never been, or to try a new menu item at a restaurant you love,” said Erin Piscopink, Grand St. BID Executive Director.
In addition to Indian Kitchen other participants are: Los Tacos-Bar McOndo, Ryujin, Dar 525, Le Barricou, Forcella, Thompson Brooke, The Sandwich Shop, Desy’s Clam Bar, Bahia, Ammazzacaffe, Thip Osha, Tacos Project, and Grand Morelos. Lunch prices range from $9.95–$15 and dinner prices go from $12–$35. Winter 2019’s restaurant week ends March 3, but you can take a trip along Grand Street and discover its world of flavor anytime.
