Kwanzaa at St. John’s

Whilamina Bradford, Linda Walters, and Julia Foster join in song at this year’s Kwanzaa celebration at St. John

Once again St. John the Evangelist Lutheran Church (195 Maujer) opened their doors to celebrate Kwanzaa in mid-December. The first of these yearly events was organized by Crispus Attucks in 1970, shortly after the holiday’s conception by Dr. Maulana Ron Karenga.  The early date was to inspire and teach the traditions to the community so they could celebrate Kwanzaa with their families at home.  However, it is also a joyful celebration to bring community together.
